CSP: Drinking And Driving Likely Factors In Pueblo Crash

Troopers believe a man got behind the wheel after drinking, causing a serious crash on the outskirts of Pueblo Sunday night.

According to State Patrol, 49-year-old Cedric Kalanquin failed to yield right of way to a Chevy that was trying to make a left-hand turn off Highway 47 onto 13th Street, causing the two vehicles to collide almost head-on.

The 22-year-old driver of the Chevy, Cody Talbot of Pueblo West, and front passenger Darian Fry, 18, of Pueblo were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. A 1-year-old was also in the car, but was uninjured. Troopers say all three were restrained at the time of the accident.

Kalanquin was treated for minor injuries and then booked in the Pueblo County Jail on a suspected DUI. Records indicate he is still behind bars as of Monday morning.
