Roads are icy in spots that saw accumulating snow yesterday. Allow yourself plenty of extra time this morning and dress warmly, as wind chills are in the single digits and teens for many. A second disturbance will bring another round of snow showers to the Front Range this afternoon and early evening. While not as heavy as yesterday, some additional light accumulations over the higher terrain will be possible, including Teller and Northern El Paso Counties. Police say a burglary suspect used a stolen credit card immediately after the theft, enabling officers to quickly locate and arrest him.
The burglary was reported at 1:20 a.m. Wednesday at the Verde Meadows Apartments on 1400 S. Chelton Rd. in Colorado Springs. The responding officer told the victim to call and call his credit card. When the victim did, he was told his card had just been used at a nearby 7-Eleven.
Officer McCoy went to the 7-Eleven and was given a description of the person who had tried to use the card. Based on the description, McCoy identified the suspect as the victim's 19-year-old neighbor. The suspect, identified as Anthony McCowan, was immediately located and taken into custody.
Police later found and returned other items that had been stolen from the victim.
McCowan faces charges of crimes against an at-risk adult involving theft, second-degree burglary, identity theft and criminal mischief.
