The suspect in the murder of a man near Helen Hunt Falls has been convicted of 1st degree murder.

A jury found Brandon Cockrell guilty Friday afternoon.

Cockrell was convicted of killing 20-year-old Ishmal Mitchell on June 28 of last year.

The shooting happened on North Cheyenne Canon Road, near Helen Hunt Falls.

Mitchell was found near the popular tourist site with multiple gunshot wounds. He later died at a hospital.

Cockrell will be sentenced on April 4. He faces life in prison without parole.
