A bomb squad was called out to Old Colorado City Friday night while investigating a World War II-era grenade found earlier in the day.
Colorado Springs police said a man found the grenade in a box at a home in the Briargate area. He reportedly took it to the fire station located at 10th and Colorado to turn it in.
Firefighters called police to examine the box of ordinance, which led officers to close down a few blocks of Colorado Avenue. A police spokesperson told 11 News the box was examined and didn't pose a threat.
A team from Ft. Carson was called to remove the box and grenade for proper disposal.
Colorado Avenue was reopened at about 9:40 p.m.
