Police say that a body found in Monument Creek is not being investigated as suspicious.
The deceased man was found Tuesday afternoon in a part of the creek that runs along Goose Gossage Park. The park is located off Mark Dabling Boulevard, near Garden of the Gods and I-25.
The terrain along the creek bank and heavy rain proved challenging for responding officers. Police said the wooded terrain made it difficult for officers to locate the body; once the body was found, continuous rain and rising creek waters "severely hampered" the investigation.
The El Paso County Coroner's Office will be conducting an autopsy to determine cause of death. The man's identity has not been released, though police will say they believe he was homeless.
