Black Hills Energy Customers Reporting Phone Scam

Black Hills Energy customers are warned about a scam circulating in Pueblo.

According to the Pueblo Police Department, people have been reporting receiving calls from an unidentified person informing them that they are with the electric company and are about to lose power unless they send money immediately. The caller then instructs the person to go immediately to King Soopers or Walgreens to send cash; the caller says credit cards or checks will not be accepted.

Two Pueblo businesses have been targeted so far.

Black Hills Energy says that they will always send two notices by mail, then one notice by phone before shutting off service, and will accept credit card or check payments.

Police warn not to give any information over the phone; companies should be able to provide you your information without you asking.
