The annual Black Forest Festival is happening today. This year the Black Forest Community Club, which sponsors the event, says it is especially important to the community as it rebuilds after this summer's devastating fire.
The festival is held at the corner of Black Forest and Shoup Roads.
The festivities started at 6:30 a.m. and include a pancake breakfast, a parade at 10:30 a.m., an appearance by the Air Force Academy Blue Steel band and many other activities, booths, and of course, food.
This year's parade honored first responders, the National Guard and all those who helped the community during the fire.
The theme of this year's event is "Recover, Rebuild and Restore - our community."
Donations are being accepted by various local charities serving the fire victims.
The festival goes until 3:00pm.
