A 6-week-old baby girl is fighting for her life after a car crash early Monday morning.

The car carrying little Lizbeth and her mother, 35-year-old Shalimar McComas, was sent careening into a ravine after a Jeep smashed into the back of their car.

Though not confirmed by police, witnesses told sister station KCNC that the Jeep was doing about 100 mph right before the crash.

McComas is expected to be okay, but Lizbeth may have suffered head trauma in the accident.

“We always do out best to protect the innocent. The most innocent of innocents is the young ones. It broke my heart when I got the phone call from lieutenant,” Aurora police spokesman Lt. Chuck DeShazer told KCNC. “No family needs to endure this, especially around the holidays.”

The driver of the Jeep, 21-year-old William Page III, is currently in the ICU at a Denver-area hospital. The force of impact also caused his Jeep to roll, and he was reportedly thrown from the vehicle. It's not yet known if he will face any charges.

The accident occurred around 2:15 a.m. at South Parker Road and East Lehigh Avenue in Aurora, near the Cherry Creek Reservoir, and forced almost all lanes on Parker to be shut down throughout the morning.
