Authorities are searching for a copper thief who they say was able to get away from them early Tuesday morning.

Around 5:30 a.m., police were called to the area of Potomac and Scarborough, north of Woodmen and Powers in Colorado Springs, on reports of a copper wiring theft. Police say they saw a suspicious person in the area; the man ran from them and they chased after. The suspect scrambled over several fences and managed to get away--but did drop his bag of stolen copper.

Authorities do not have a suspect description at this time, and do not know exactly where the copper was stolen from. They are continuing to look for the suspect, specifically in the Potomac and Scarborough area, but say there is no threat to the public.
