Aurora Police Questioning Register Sex Offenders In Hunt For Kidnapper

Police sketch of suspect in Aurora attempted kidnapping case.

Aurora police are working their way through a list of registered sex offenders as they try to hunt down the man who attempted to kidnap an 8-year-old girl.

The little girl was taken from her bedroom early Monday morning, but was able to get away minutes later. It's unclear exactly how she escaped her kidnapper, but police say she screamed as she was being taken to alert her parents. When her father got outside, he saw his daughter running towards him from a nearby alley.

There are 900 registered sex offenders in Aurora, with nearly 400 living within a 2 mile radius of the girl's home. Police are questioning all of them.

There is currently a $20,000 reward for the capture of the suspect--the largest reward ever offered by the Aurora Police Department.

The suspect is described as a white man with blond hair, smelling like cigarettes. He was last seen wearing a black winter jacket. Police say he may be driving a silver or gray BMW.

If you have any information that could help police locate him, you are asked to call Aurora Detective Christine Hurley at 303-739-6113 or Crime Stoppers at 720-913-STOP.
