After a mild Saturday, temperatures to finish the weekend will be MUCH colder! A system to our west pushes into SE Colorado overnight. Snow showers will be possible by early Sunday morning across the I-25 corridor with a change to rain and snow showers through the afternoon. Accumulation should be minimal as most moisture looks to be light and temperatures will warm into the upper 30s and 40s through the afternoon. The main impact will be the cold along with winds gusting up to 40 mph at times. Click on the 'Weather' tab for more...
Utility customers in Colorado Springs could soon see another rate decrease.
Springs Utilities says Unit 7 is back online and generating coal power again. As a result, Utilities is proposing an average rate decrease of $4.02 for residential customers.
The proposal will be brought before the city council Sept. 9. If passed, the decrease will go into effect Sept. 12.
Unit 6 went back online in June with a rate decrease taking effect in July.
Unit 7 is the largest of the three generators at the Drake plant. With it back up and running, the plant will function at 80% capacity.
The plant itself is still months away from being fully repaired. Springs Utilities told 11 News the final repairs aren't expected to be completed until next May. That's because the third and final generator that crews have to repair is the most heavily damaged.
