A Canon City man is accused of faking his own kidnapping and demanding relatives pay a ransom for his release.
Colorado Springs police say 32-year-old Richard Jones faces at least a charge of criminal extortion after being arrested Thursday during a traffic stop.
Springs police were contacted by law enforcement in Fremont County to assist with their investigation into Jones' disappearance and ransom request by alleged kidnappers. Jones had been reported missing Jan. 21.
Jones was found by Springs police during a traffic stop at South Academy and Airport Thursday at 2:30 p.m. He was unharmed and was not being held captive.
Investigators say they determined the reported kidnapping was false after interviewing several people in a vehicle with Jones.
No one answered the phone at a number listed for Jones in Canon City and it is unclear whether he has retained an attorney.

Let me guess, no one offered to pay his ransom.
He has multiple personalities. One kidnapped the other and demaded a ranson. By the time the real Richard Jones came back it was too late.
