The Air Force Academy is mourning the loss of a cadet, who passed away over the weekend.

"The Academy is deeply saddened by the tragic loss we suffered Saturday," Lt. Gen. Mike Gould, Superintendent of the Air Force Academy, said in a statement. "As we grieve the passing of James, we ask that everyone keep his family and friends in their thoughts and prayers."

Cadet 4th Class James L. Walsh was found unresponsive in the cadet area Saturday night. Emergency services attempted to revive him, but were unable to. The cause of death is currently under investigation.

Prior to his acceptance into the Academy, Walsh was assigned to the 744th Communications Squadron at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland as a cyber transportation systems apprentice. He then attended the Air Force Academy Preparatory School in 2011, graduating last year. He was accepted into the class of 2016 at the Air Force Academy and attended basic cadet training last summer.

Walsh is originally from Tinley Park, Illinois, graduating from high school there in 2008.

The Academy and Walsh's family are working to set up funeral arrangements.
