An aging water system is likely to blame for a water main break Monday morning, according to Colorado Springs Utilities.
The break left a gaping hole in the middle of Panorama Drive, located near Fontmore and 30th on the west side of Colorado Springs. Crews spent all day Monday fixing the break, which involved replacing a section of pipe.
Water was turned back on at 5 p.m. for the 18 customers affected.
The water main break happened just after 2 a.m. Monday, and was a rude awakening for people living in the area.
"The toilet didn't flush and I went to wash my hands and the water did not turn on...I went to my fridge to get water to drink...the water in the fridge didn't work either," Andrew Darrigan said.
Tuesday, crews will return to pave that section of road. Drivers are told to continue avoiding the area.
