A former Springs man accused of kidnapping and sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl reportedly confessed to the crime.
According to a newspaper out of Wyoming, where the abduction took place, a search warrant revealed that after his arrest, suspect Jesse Speer provided investigators with information that had not yet been made public. Such details included knowing that the kidnapper put a bag over the victim's head.
Speer, 39, is accused of forcing a young girl into his SUV on October 8, then driving to a desolate road and assaulting her. Hunters found the child wandering towards the highway after her kidnapper let her go.
After an almost week-long manhunt, Speer was located in Belgrade, Mont. He was extradited back to Wyoming, where he remains in custody on a $2 million bond. He's facing charges of kidnapping, aggravated assault and using a gun in the commission of a felony.
Records indicate Speer used to own a home in Colorado Springs, and his parents still live in the area. Investigators say he has not been linked to any kidnapping cases in Colorado, including the high-profile Jessica Ridgeway case.
