Colorado Springs Mayor Steve Bach presented Academy School District 20 with the Spirit of the Springs "Celebration" award Wednesday, recognizing the district's distinction as one of the state's top school districts.
The Mayor praised the district for being named a district "Accredited With Distinction" by the Colorado Board of Education. The designation is bestowed on only the top ten percent of school districts in the state. D20 is the largest school district to receive the distinction.
"This is essential for our city," Mayor Bach noted at the ceremony, "To prepare our young people for life, so they can find good, quality jobs, and ultimately succeed us in leadership."
The Mayor encouraged the school district to do all it can to provide the skills necessary for their students to become the city's future leaders, and pledged his support to provide them the resources.
The ceremony was held in the office of Dr. Mark Hatchell, Superintendent of Academy School District 20.
