A Change Is Coming To KKTV.com

KKTV 11 News is excited to announce the pending redesign of our award-winning website, KKTV.com.

Our new design is built with HTML 5, the current gold standard for web development. Rebuilding our site with HTML 5 will ensure ongoing compatibility with both PCs and mobile devices.

We're also going to take this opportunity make some changes that highlight our local content. When the new design launches, you'll see a significantly larger weather box on the home page and up-to-date weather conditions across the top of almost every page. We'll also be updating the navigation to make our most popular sections more accessible.

If you're looking for our latest local news coverage, you'll find it organized in a new tab box on the home page. Our top headlines, top videos and a new, advanced search function will all be available there.

For those readers who have something to say, our redesigned website will transition to a robust commenting system provided by Disqus. Visitors will be able to connect their thoughts to their favorite social media accounts.

The biggest update will appear on mobile devices. Instead of sending our mobile visitors to a different address, the use of HTML 5 allows us to display a special layout to users with smaller screens. The mobile layout will allow users to expand only the sections they want to see and will load quickly, even over cellular networks.

All this will be launched on Monday, May 7.

If you have any feedback after the new design launches, do not hesitate to let us know. Our Director of New Media, Phil Tenser, will personally review any suggestions or comments sent to ptenser@kktv.com. Please include "KKTV.com" in the subject line.

KKTV, I will miss this forum, and I'm not sure if I will continue with the new one. I only recently discovered it, liked the convenience and began to follow the news here daily. I enjoyed reading different opinions and views concerning issues, but was shocked over the mean, crude remarks, especially those of a certain individual. It dismayed me to read the lashing out at different ethnic groups, name-calling and the sport of pointing out typos and incorrect grammar. Hopefully that will improve.

Joe Lieberman said that maybe we need to do what China is doing to their internet. Remember when China used to be the evil, bad guy? Now that we have the evil muslims to fear, China is our good friend. Sorry, Israel.

KKTV is just doing what the government told it to do...shut down free speech. Next is martial law. I'm beginning to think I live in North Korea.

That's right. the media is just doing their job. No accountability needed from the media. Now, let's move on to a happy soldier reunion because the war on terror is a good thing. Nothing negative about war in this town.

Um... David, if KKTV is asking for feedback on their changes, why are you critisizing people who provide their opinions? Clearly you're a little hazy on what infringement really is. Do you truly mean to imply that any person who provides their opinion to someone else is in some way curbing that other person's freedom, or do you claim to just agree with everyone and silently accept anything that another person or company foists upon you? The bottom line is that KKTV is proposing a change, for which they actively solicited opinions, and the majority of their readers aren't thrilled about it. That's all that going on here. It's their website to change as they see fit, but it's in any comapny's best interests to be receptive to their audience.

It's called change. Get used to it. I'm criticizing the "Waah Brigade" here who somehow think their Bill of Rights has been trampled because KKTV changed their format to get with the times. Just like you folks have the right to cry like babies, I have the right to point it out. Yay for "freedom of speech on someone else's website that they pay for!" Do you want them to pay for any other soapboxes for you while they're at it?

The difference is that in this case it's the media who are slowly eliminating anonymous comments. When the politics get really bad in this country anonymity might be a good thing but your comments will not be popular. The media is the mouthpiece of the government. As the war on terror is directed at the USA your comments just might be considered sympathetic toward the terrorists. Freedom of speech is getting to be mighty unpopular lately.

Sorry folks...but seriously, free speech is a great thing. Sometimes discriminatory comments are necessary to get the point across.
