Federal drug authorities say nearly a fifth of Colorado's medical marijuana dispensary operators could be forced out of business in coming weeks because of new state rules.
The Colorado Legislature last session passed the state's first pot-shop licensing plan, which includes a provision that dispensary owners haven't been convicted of a felony in the past five years.
The Drug Enforcement Administration says 18 percent of current dispensaries could be shuttered under the no-felon rule. Dispensaries are required apply for state licenses by Sunday.
It's unclear how long it'll take for the state to start closing shops that don't meet the new requirements.
The man tasked with enforcing the rules says he anticipates 2,200 applications, with only three employees and no supplies to process them.

Pay attention they just violated everyone in this states constitutional rights this bill violates patient access and drives prices up. get up stand up or they'll be Taking all our rights away without a fight
I believe once a person has done their time that that should be it.It is already difficult for a felon to get employment now, yet we still want to label and control....No I don't have a felon nor do I enjoy any of the establishments.
As a MMJ patient, I am glad to see an individual who owns a dispensary in this state can NOT be a convicted felon. I am all for dispensaries, however there needs to be regulations. A convicted felon loses certain rights under the law now. A convicted felon should also lose the right to run a business that deals with a drug that is still illegal in the eyes of the federal government. There has to be rules and laws that need to be followed and regulated in the industry. Patients should be thankful we are allowed to be patients!!
