The Colorado Bureau of Investigation is assisting authorities in Trinidad with a death investigation. The victim, Lucille Garcia, 58, has passed away in a Pueblo hospital.

Garcia was reportedly found unconscious and not breathing on Tuesday at 1609 San Pedro in Trinidad. Her appearance indicated she had been assaulted. She was taken in critical condition to St. Mary Corwin Hospital in Pueblo.

Garcia died on July 28 after being removed from life support. An autopsy is scheduled for July 30, 2010. The autopsy should provide more information about Garcia’s death.

In a news release, Trinidad police report "Garcia aspirated as a result of intoxication and a combination of drugs." She had been unconscious for at least 20 minutes, according to the release.

Police and CBI agents are now focusing on the hours, and what they call "suspicious circumstances," leading up to the discovery of Garcia.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Trinidad Police Department TIPS line at 719-845-TIPS.
