States that had been planning to copy Arizona's new immigration law will have to wait and see what happens in the courts.

The law was set to take effect today, but a federal judge yesterday put most of it on hold. The judge agreed with the Obama administration that immigration enforcement is the role of the federal government.

The state plans to appeal.

The judge shelved parts of the law requiring immigrants to carry their papers at all times and police to check immigration status while enforcing other laws. And she blocked officers from making warrantless arrests of suspected illegal immigrants.

Also on hold is a ban on undocumented workers soliciting employment in public places.

Don't forget that the Arizona lawmakers knew this law was unconstitutional when they passed it. They passed it anyway to bring the issue to the forefront so that the feds would actually take some action. Everything is proceeding to plan and hopefully no one was actually surprised by the ruling. It was necessary and correct, and now bring the issue up to the next level. Anyone who saw this ruling as anything other than expected has a lot to learn about consitutional law.

So, what part of 'illegal' are our officers and deputies not supposed to enforce?
