When it comes to fundraising, the South High School cross-country team is putting their best foot (or shoe) forward.

Starting Thursday, the team will be "shoe-ing" people for donations. A $30 donation and the name and address of your target will net you 24 hours of obnoxious fluorescent shoes decorating their front lawn. People can buy "shoe insurance" for $25 dollars, this prevents them from having the colorful display spread across the front of their home.

The runners aren't keeping all the dough for themselves. $5 from every donation will be given back to the community through Care and Share. The team plans to use the rest of the money to purchase supplies, uniforms, and food during and after team competitions.

Their budget from the school district is only $1,100, barely enough to get them to and from events. "One bus to Colorado Springs costs me $250, and the meet entry is $150 so that doesn't go very far," says Clint Zundel, one of the team coaches.

Zundel and members of his team say, they have a very good chance of doing well at the state competition later this year. Last year they took second place in regionals and 10th place at the state competition. This year with enough support and hard work, they plan to win state.

The fundraiser is set to run through September 1. For information on how to help, or to purchase a shoe-ing for a friend, contact 560-0067.
