The Air Force Academy says its athletics director has begun reporting directly to the school's top officer, instead of the second-in-command.
The reason for the change was not explained, but officials issued a written statement saying it was one of 15 recommendations from a panel that spent five months reviewing the academy's athletic department. The change is effective immediately.
The academy assigned the commandant of cadets to oversee the athletics department last year. The athletic director previously reported to the superintendent, the school's top commander.
The change was part of shake-up that brought new commanders and
tough new policies to the academy after a sexual assault scandal.
Colonel Randy Spetman soon resigned as athletic director, citing a change in the line of command as one of his reasons.
