Some business-minded Air Force Academy alumni have decided to open a brew pub overlooking their Alma mater.
Colorado Mountain Brewery is expected to open at the end of July. It is located just east of the U.S. Air Force Academy in front of Hollywood Theaters at I-25 and Interquest Parkway.
36 of the 74 investors are former cadets. They range from the Class of 1960 to 2002.
"We believe this is the first time such a large coalition of Air Force Academy grads have come together for one project," said Scott Koons, Managing General Partner.
Scott Koons, a 1993 grad, and his dad came up with the vision.
"My dad's been doing real estate for many years. we were looking for some project we could do together," said Koons.
They decided to soar into the restaurant business.
"My husband is also an Air Force grad, so we got wind of it and jumped on board," Jeane Turner, General Partner Rocky Mountain Brewers, LLC.
All the investors came up with a total of $3.6 million
"We're going to be featuring Colorado wines and some Colorado products. We're partnering with lots of Colorado vendors to come up with some exclusive items," said Turner.
Colorado Mountain Brewery will be the future home of Air Force Academy Head Football Coach Troy Calhoun's weekly radio show, as well as a tailgate spot for all air force athletic events.
