Barton in Court

Attorneys for a woman charged with starting the massive Hayman Fire are trying to get a judge to suppress statements she made that she started the blaze.

Terry Lynn Barton is charged with arson and other crimes
stemming from the 137-thousand-acre Hayman Fire that burned earlier
this summer near Lake George.

Her attorney told a federal judge today that Forest Service
investigators failed to advise her of right to remain silent before
she made her statements.

But one of the investigators testified that there was no need to
advise Barton of her rights because she was not under arrest at the
time.

The hearing will continue later today.
