Prosecutors pursuing a sexual assault case against Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant now say crucial DNA evidence tested by defense-hired experts might have been contaminated.
Prosecutors allege in a court filing made public Wednesday that there was contamination present in test samples, intended to ensure the testing was accurate. They also said data from the defense experts appears to have been manipulated.
The Eagle County District Attorney's office has asked District Judge Terry Ruckriegle to hold a hearing Thursday to force Bryant's attorneys to prove the reliability of evidence they plan to present at his trial.
Jury selection is scheduled to start Friday.
