Colorado Springs Police say that excessive speed is to blame for a single car crash in Southbound I-25 near the Cimarron exit.

The initial call came from an El Paso County Sheriff's Deputy who was passed by a car reportedly going at a high rate of speed while traveling south on the interstate. The Deputy attempted to make contact with the driver of the speeding car but before he could the speeding driver lost control, hitting the center barrier then spinning across the interstate and hitting the guard rail before coming to a stop.

Police estimate the driver was speeding in excess of 100 miles per hour when she lost control. The driver was taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Police also report that drugs or alcohol were not factors in the accident.

She passed me at Nevada/Rockrimmon exit doing 130mph. When I saw the accident I stopped and got out to help she is extremely lucky to be alive because her airbag did not deploy. She was driving a Grayish purple Saturn L300. The Officer and I moved her to the back seat and in the middle was a child car seat. I wanted to yell at her so bad but figured the cop was going to do that for me so I left and went to work. She looked like she had just spent the night partying in Denver and was racing home. So I am very surprised neither Drug nor Alcohol was involved.

Perhaps she was being chased?

Police reported that "no drugs/alcohol were the cause of this accident" and too bad they couldn't add - just stupidity and no common sense which is par for the course from most of the drivers here!
