At least 33-hundred doses of vaccines worth more than 64-thousand dollars have been ruined after a refrigerator at the El Paso County health department malfunctioned ...and froze them.
An alarm system that could have prevented the problem had been turned off after a series of false alarms.
The vaccines have been replaced, and no immunization appointments had to be canceled.
The ruined vaccines were discovered July 19th.
The department expects to receive a new refrigerator and freezer this week.
The vaccines included nearly three-thousand for children, including one for diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis, and 375 doses for older children and adults, including vaccines for tetanus and typhoid.
