While this is the time of year for prom and graduation, a junior from Air Academy High School is sending a message to fellow teens.

Jeffrey Stark made a public service announcement, a PSA. "My goal is to make something shocking," says the 17-year-old.

In the PSA, the driver is distracted by texting, a phone call, the radio and then, "He glances up to see a biker in front of him, so he swerves to miss the biker and winds up hitting a parked car," says Stark.

He shot the video, edited it and even starred in it. The hardest part was driving while making it look like I was texting , but in actuality, I wasn't."

His PSA competed in the ‘Mcdivitt Law Firm Makes A Difference Contest’. It's the third year he entered and apparently, third times a charm. "The judges loved his entry. You are in the driver's seat on this one and all of us can identify with this video," says Karen McDivitt with the McDivitt Law Firm.

“Distracted driving can be a lot more disastrous that you think it is," Stark says.

He won a Mac laptop and his PSA will be aired on TV including 11 News for the next month. His school also gets a $1,000.

Stark admits that sometimes, he gets distracted with the radio, but says he never texts and drives.

Congrats to Jeffery Stark. It's nice to see a teenager realize the dangers of being distracted while driving and doing something about it to highlight this danger. We've all been distracted by the radio or heating/AC controls but in todays day and age, it's ridiculous to see how many people are talking on cell phones or even texting all while driving. This is one distraction I've never experienced myself because I don't answer a phone or make a call while driving. The two don't mix. Just do a Google search for "accident statistics involving cell phones" and you'll get a wealth of info on how dangerous it can be. Anyways, Kudos to Jeffery.
