A lucky group of kids rode away on new bikes Thursday, given to them for free from a Colorado Springs non-profit.

Kids on Bikes has a mission to provide bikes to children through programs that inspire a healthy lifestyle, independence, and achievement. Thursday, they donated over 60 bikes, locks, and helmets to fifth-grade students at Sand Creek Elementary.

The giveaways are the result of the organization's annual ABCs Program, where "students are rewarded with bicycles for achieving academic, behavioral, and character-based goals set at the beginning of the school year. With the assistance of their teachers and Kids on Bikes, the students track their progress toward their goals throughout the year."

The program originated at Sand Creek Elementary in 2006, and in four years has distributed over 300 bikes. The free bikes, locks and helmets are made possible by individual donations, local merchants, organizations and private Foundations.
