The teen who got tasered at a Philadelphia Phillies baseball game is gaining more attention that he probably hoped for. Steven Consalvi, 17, was tasered because he ran out on the ball field. The cops in Philadelphia say their officer was justified.

Some people in Southern Colorado think the cop should have never tasered the teen. On the other hand, some people who watched the video with 11 News said he had it coming to him.

The video shows the crowd roaring as the teen ran from security. Then, he hit the ground after being hit with the taser gun.

Wayne Consalvi, Steven's father, told the CBS station in Philadelphia that Monday night's tasing was unnecessary. "Fine him, whatever he gets for that,” said Consalvi. “But tasering him? Definitely uncalled for."

"It's not that bad, it's better than shooting him,” said Jacob Clark, after he watched the video with 11 News.

"It was completely excessive and a complete abuse of power," said Luis Uribe, a Colorado Springs resident.

Opinions on the taser use are very mixed. "It just got a little bit out of hand, they could've tried harder to chase him down, but they decided to tase him instead," said Katherine Stempson, who also watched the video with 11 News.

"For someone to do something that's that wild, to run out on the field, you know you're not supposed to do that, you've got to expect some repercussions," said Nadar Maghribi.

A Philadelphia police officer, working for the Phillies, fired the taser gun. His boss is standing by him. "I don't think it was excessive," said Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey.

Consalvi faces charges of defiant trespass, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

The Colorado Springs Police Department’s policy on when it is okay to use a taser gun allows a taser to be used only when it seems necessary to subdue a violent or potentially violent person. Under police protocol, a taser is meant to stop a dangerous incident from escalating, to the point where they could have to use more extreme force, like a gun.

Stupid kid got off easy. Kudos to the Philly PD & the Officer. The Officer should get at least a couple days off with pay.

First off the kid is stupid for even doing what he did and so is his dad for knowing what his son was about to do, poor parenting and people you cant talk, how do you know it was excessive force is, have you worked in law enforcement, I have, the kid broke a rule, the officer responded to the situation accordingly and did what was expected of him, the kid got what he deserved and probably learned a life time lesson. The officer had know idea what the intent of the kid was whether he was making a total fool out of himself or having the intent to hurt someone. I commend the officer, good job
