While most of Tuesday will be just fine, expect snow to develop by the afternoon/evening drive. This is especially true north of HWY 50 and across the Pikes Peak Region. Steadier and heavier snow will be possible later Tuesday night into early Wednesday. Expect some light accumulations, but enough to make for a slick drive Wednesday morning. The Pikes Peak Ranger District is opening up a new firewood cutting area to reduce fuel for wildfires.
It's the Manitou Experimental Forest in Teller County just six miles north of Woodland Park.
The cutting begins Monday, August 16th. The gate will be open Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm and Saturday and Sunday from 7:00am to 6:00pm. Wood will sell for $20 per cord.
You'll need a firewood permit to gain access to the area.
If you'd like more information on the firewood area, call the Pikes Peak Ranger District at 636-1602.
