Two University of Colorado football players have been cited for underage drinking after being stopped in a car going 91 in a 65 mile-per-hour zone.
Boulder County authorities say 19-year-old freshman defensive end Alonzo Barrett and 20-year-old sophomore cornerback Gerett Burl
were cited for drinking violations Thursday. Burl turned 21 the next day.
The driver, sophomore wide receiver Blake Mackey, was ticketed for speeding. Burl told the arresting deputy he had been ticketed for underage drinking last year.
The arrests come as Colorado tries to recover from accusations of using sex and alcohol to recruit athletes. A CU athletics spokesman says Mackey won't face team discipline for speeding. It's unclear what discipline the other players face.
