Tuesday night, the school board of Pueblo County School District 70 decided to outsource the operation of their school buses. The vote, held at Pueblo West High School, was unanimous, 4-0 (board member David Valdez was absent).

The decision means the district will be working with a a private company for bus transportation. That company's name is First Student.

The district plans to sell its buses to the company, allowing the district to save on maintenance costs. It could save the school district up to $400,000.

SURE they can do it cheaper...by hiring drivers at minimum wage, which is FAR cheaper than the current drivers are getting. Cheaper wages have ALWAYS been the #1 reason for outsourcing.

It is important to know that you can never pay someone to do something cheaper than you could do yourself. Sure they now save on maintenance costs, but the new company has to charge enough to pay all the same costs plus make a profit. It will cost way more in the long run.

Just thought everyone out there should know that the company, First Student, that District 70 is outsourcing to is based out of the UK. So now your tax dollars are going to a foreign country because the District didn't wish to keep transportation.
