A system producing heavy snow in the central mountains arrives in SE Colorado overnight Sunday into Monday bringing moisture, windy conditions and colder temperatures. Snow showers will be possible across the I-25 corridor to start the day. This system will produce bands of snow through the day Monday. Areas under these bands will see periods of heavy snowfall which, with windy conditions, could create travel difficulties. A review of a prison uprising in Crowley County last month faults a private company's response.
Hundreds of inmates set fires and attacked cellmates at the facility July 20th.
The Corrections Department has not finished its review of how
Corrections Corporation of America handled the riot. But The Denver Post reports that a corrections official says C.C.A. failed to respond promptly with enough force and ignored an offer to negotiate. The Post says company managers ignored warnings of inmate unrest.
C.C.A. officials say they deployed chemical agents promptly, did not ignore inmate grievances, and tried to negotiate with inmates before the riot broke out but had to withdraw as inmates grew angrier.
