Prison escapee Robert Dana has been captured by police in the Texas panhandle community of Dumas.
The Colorado Department of Corrections says, Dana was apprehended Saturday morning and did not resist arrest.
Dana escaped from the Arrowhead Correctional Center near Canon City early Monday morning. He stole a green and white Ford Bronco to make his getaway. That vehicle was recovered in the parking lot of Pikes Peak Community College in Colorado Springs on Wednesday night.
On Thursday evening, Dana stole a Dodge Durango from the parking lot of the Walgreens on Fountain Mesa Drive in Fountain. That is the vehicle that police officers in Dumas, Texas spotted early Saturday.
The officers were on their way to another call, when they spotted the Durango in the Dumas City Park. The police had received information about his escape and the vehicle he may be driving. When they approached the car, Dana was inside.
"This was police work at its best. The officers remembered the description of the stole vehicle and followed though. I commend their attention to detail and dedication to public safety," said Joe Ortiz, Executive Director of the Colorado Department of Corrections.
