Heavy rainfall prompted serious flash flooding in parts of the area on Wednesday evening. More of the same could be on tap for Thursday.
In the Briargate area, heavy rain dropped up to 3 inches of rain Wednesday night. In areas, hail also piled up. Castle Rock, which hosts the International Golf Tournament this week, also was hit hard by hailstones.
In eastern El Paso County, the flooding actually washed out roads. The bridge approach on Slocum Road, 2 miles north of State Highway 94, was washed away.
Several roads in the Ellicott and Falcon area were partially washed out and are being repaired by DOT crews. Wash-outs occurred on portions of East Ellicott, Engleby, Patton, Paddock, Blaney, Candor, Sunny Lane, and Sunset Trail.
Officials are keeping a close eye on Monument Creek and Fountain Creek. People are advised to avoid any waterways right now, since rainfall upstream can make a stream level rise dramatically in just a few seconds.
