Authorities are investigating whether a shooting in Monument Saturday morning was accidental.

Monument police and El Paso County deputies were called to the 200 block of Saber Creek at 10:30 a.m. on reports that a 9-year-old had been shot in the hand. The boy was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

According to Monument Police Department spokesman Lt. Burke, authorities currently believe the incident was an accident, but are still investigating. Burke says they are looking into whether the boy accidentally shot himself.

Police say the parents were home at the time of the incident.
