An Article 32 hearing began Monday for an Air Force Academy cadet who is facing charges related to an illegal steroid investigation.
The hearing will determine whether senior Cadet First Class Eric Swartz will face a court-martial. He is accused of wrongful use and
distribution of a controlled substance. Three other cadets also face steroid charges following a campuswide probe into drug use.
Jonathan Belkowitz faces the same charges as Swartz, along with
a charge of making a false official statement. Former academy football players Overton Spence, Jr. and Matthew Ward are accused of steroid use and possession. Spence also is accused of distributing steroid pills. Their fates have yet to be determined.
If convicted on all counts, C1C Swartz could face 65 years in jail and could be expelled from the Academy.
