Major Robert Gwinner says brigade commander Colonel Frederick Rudelsheim was jealous of Lieutenant Colonel Nathan Sassaman because he was getting lots of television coverage.

He says Rudesheim called the criminal investigation division to investigate rumors that an Iraqi had been drowned by American troops without informing Sassaman, who was their commander.

Gwinner said Sassaman told the soldiers involved in the incident to not to tell investigators that they had forced the Iraqis to jump in the river because he was concerned the investigation was a personal vendetta.

The Army commanders were granted immunity today during a hearing to determine if their subordinates will face a court martial in the case.

Three soldiers are charged in connection with the Iraqi's death, and a fourth is charged with assault for forcing the victim's cousin to jump into the river. The cousin survived.
