Senator Heading to the Smithsonian

Senator Ben Nighthorse Campbell is making history. The Colorado Republican is only member of Congress who makes jewelry. And he's about to become the only person in Congress to have a solo art show at the Smithsonian Institution.

At age 71, Campbell's work will be on display when the Smithsonian opens its National Museum of the American Indian in September.

Campbell is leaving office early next year after two terms in the Senate. He's served in the state Legislature and in Congress since 1983, but he's been making jewelry since 1946. Back then, the Campbell family traded its jewelry for basic needs such as food.

Campbell says after he retires, he will take it easy for a while, but he says he has too much energy to keep that up for long. He plans to ride his Harley-Davidson and take on consulting and
speaking engagements.
