40-ton Boulder Hits SW Colorado Highway

Cleanup will continue all weekend on a southwest Colorado highway hit by a 40-ton boulder last week.
The rock slide on U.S. 160 in Archuleta County Thursday evening caused no injuries. A truck-sized boulder that landed on the road was blasted and removed by the Colorado Department of Transportation on Friday, with one lane remaining open.
Rubble cleanup was expected to continue all weekend with one lane remaining open. State highway engineers are headed to the highway Monday for more analysis of the rock slide damage.
A bigger rock slide March 1 on Interstate 70 near Glenwood Springs forced highway officials to close 17 miles of the interstate for more than a week. Officials say Colorado rock slides usually peak in April.
