You can hike to the top of Pikes Peak but how about all the way around it?
A group of local trail advocates is trying to link more than 50 miles of hikeable territory around the base of the peak and the latest link is done now.
The group calls themselves "Friends of the Peak". They've spent 4 days this month building a half-mile stretch of trail they call the Raspberry Mountain Connection. It takes hikers around private property into Chipeta Park says president Mary Burger.
"With a minimal amount of effort, we've opened 14 miles of trail. You can walk from here to Chipeta Park and we only had to build a half mile of it."
Friends of the Peak hopes to complete the ring the peak trail in the next 6 years. In the meantime, they'll be working on another connector trail next month.
