The Republican field to challenge Democratic Rep. Betsy Markey this fall is getting smaller.
Candidate Diggs Brown dropped out of the contest Wednesday and endorsed state Rep. Cory Gardner of Yuma. Gardner handily won straw polls of Republican voters in the district's two largest counties Tuesday.
Diggs is a former Fort Collins council member and former member of the U.S. Army Special Forces.
When Markey won in 2008, she became the first Democrat to win the 4th District seat in 30 years, and she has attracted intense opposition from the GOP. Republicans will choose Markey's opponent in an Aug. 10 primary.
The other Republican candidates are Tom Lucero, a member of the University of Colorado Board of Regents, and Dean Madere, a Loveland businessman making his first run for elected office.
