Fountain Soldier Remembered

"I yearn---I wish for another chance to hear his voice. I know I'm never going to hear that again." A Fort Carson soldier is mourning the loss of his younger brother who was killed in Iraq.

Twenty-six year old Army Specialist Dana Wilson was one of two soldiers killed in a head-on collision in Iraq on Sunday. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion 94th Field Artillery Brigade based out of Germany.

Military officials say the accident is still under investigation. They say SPC Wilson was in a convoy on his way to Kuwait. From there, he was going back to Germany. That’s where he wife and two young boys, Tristan and Brandon, live.

"The way I see it, my brother---his kids are three and one. How are they going to grow up with him?” The loss for Damian Wilson is also devastating. "It's really hard---the darkest point in my life. I don't think it can get any worse than this right now," says the Fort Carson soldier.

Damian Wilson says he's having frequent flashbacks to his childhood since his younger brother’s death. "I get these visions of growing up, playing baseball and football. I was quarterback. My brother was the only one who would know where I was throwing the ball before I would throw it," he says.

Damian also says he doesn't know much about the crash that took his brother's life. He heard a sandstorm may have impaired visibility.

He says Dana had been in the Army for less than a year, and wanted to become a cook. "I don't see how bad things happen to good people. That’s what it comes down to. He was so close. So close to coming home. So close to coming home," says Damian. He also says his brother dreamed of coming home to open up his own restaurant.

A memorial service will be held at a local church sometime next week.

Another Soldier With Colorado Ties:

A second soldier who died in this accident had strong ties to Colorado. The Department of Defense say Sergeant James West, 34, is from Watertown, NY.

But we've learned that he attended high school in Fairplay. His mother lives in Woodland Park and his father resides in Calhan. SGT West also has other friends and family members in the area.
