At least three people are dead following a traffic accident on I-25 south of Colorado Springs. It happened around 11:30 a.m. Thursday in the northbound lanes of I-25 just south of the South Academy exit.
The Colorado State Patrol says a 2000 Mitsubishi Galant, driven by 19-year-old John Sanchez of Colorado Springs, was travelling south on the interstate. That's when the vehicle crossed over the median and into oncoming traffic.
The car went airborne and landed on top of a 2000 Chevy Impala, driven by 23-year-old Chad Robbins of Ft. Smith, Arkansas. Two passengers in that vehicle were dead at the scene. They are identified as 27-year-old Hart Robbins and 21-year-old Michael Kruithof, also of Arkansas. Around 4:30 p.m., Chad Robbins was pronounced dead at Memorial Hospital.
Sanchez was taken by ambulance to Memorial Hospital. His condition has not been released.
I-25 was down to one northbound lane until about 2:45 p.m. when the accident was cleared. The crash remains under investigation.
