Colorado Springs Vice and Narcotics Intelligence unit (Metro VNI) set up a successful drug sting on Monday afternoon.

Police say it all happened around 2:30 p.m. Monday. An undercover detective was able to get one suspect, 21-year-old Joseph Upshaw, to allegedly deliver two ounces of marijuana to authorities at the Conoco Gas Station on the 800 block of N. Nevada. After searching the suspect, police also found a loaded Smith & Wesson .45 caliber semi-automatic handgun.

Detectives then executed a search warrant at Upshaw's home, located at 1408 N. Weber St. There, officers found a man already wanted for attempted first degree murder, 22-year-old Justin McDowell. He resisted arrest, and was taken into custody, according to officers on scene.

A further search revealed multiple weapons, including a Ruger P85, 9mm handgun in the cushions of a sofa bed, and in Upshaw's bedroom, detectives say they uncovered a third handgun, a Hi-Point 9mm. Investigators also found 11 pounds of marijuana, 27 grams of hallucinogenic mushrooms and $600 in cash.

Upshaw was arrested for Distribution of Marijuana and Carrying a Concealed Weapon. McDowell was booked for resisting arrest and that active attempted murder warrant, which stemmed from an incident that happened in the area of Astrozon Blvd and Middleton Court.

No photos are available yet for these suspects.
