Additional restoration work on watersheds that feed into Denver's water supply that were damaged by the Hayman fire in 2002 is set to begin, eight years after a massive wildfire tore through 215 square miles southwest of Denver.

The National Forest Foundation Friday announced the beginning of work on the three-year project.

Erosion from areas stripped bare of vegetation has allowed sediment to run down hills and build up around Cheesman Reservoir, threatening a main source of water for Denver homes.

Most of the work would focus on about 70 square miles of the most severely affected areas in four watersheds feeding the Upper South Platte River southwest of the city.

Glad to see this finally taking place. That stupid woman who started that fire should be there with a shovel in her hand helping. She has been released from jail, has she not. Forgive and forget. Just hard to forget that fire.

Goes to show that an ounce of prevention (and work in the woods) is worth a pound (or 50 million dollars) of cure.
