A television station investigation found authorities responsible for ensuring the safety of animals in pet care facilities ignored problems at a kennel where authorities found about 100 starving sled dogs.

KMGH-TV found that the Colorado Department of Agriculture's Pet Animal Care Facilities Act program ignored several signs and warnings to an inspector from neighbors about problems at Pawsatrak Racing Sled Dog Kennel near Hartsel, about 70 miles southwest of Denver.

Authorities say they can't fault the inspector because the animals looked healthy during inspections.

Samuel and Diane Walker face animal cruelty charges in Park County following their arrest Christmas Day. Authorities seized about 100 starving mixed-breed sled dogs on Dec. 17.

This story has had me furious from the get-go.... Yea, regulate the MMJ dispensaries left and right...But starving/dead dogs...no, they let that be!! NICE REGULATIONS THERE!! I hope like hell Karma bites the "regulators" where they most deserve it. As for the owners of all those dogs, Im sure they will get theirs!!

I find it difficult to believe that inspectors didn't take the time to feel the animal coats. Most sled dogs have a thick undercoat, and to determine animal health, a "hands on" exam is mandatory. If your inspectors did not know this, they are either not qualified for this job, or did not receive the right training. Hire someone that knows animal health to do this job!
