The Liquor and Beer Licensing Board has voted to suspend the liquor license of Syn Night Club. It was a unanimous 7 to 0 vote.

Syn Night Club is the newly-named 13 Pure night club on East Pikes Peak Avenue in Colorado Springs. The review was called in a direct response to a weekend incident that started inside the club and moved outside in which more than 100 people were fighting and about half of the entire Colorado Springs police force on duty were forced to respond.

"The situation at Syn Nightclub is a threat to public safety and welfare,” said a spokesperson from the city attorney’s office.

At the emergency liquor board hearing four Colorado Springs police officers testified about what happened at Syn early Sunday morning when a large gang fight broke out.

"Inside the club there was a victim laying on the ground in blood," said Sgt. Joshua Benner, who was on scene that night.

As the fight moved outside the club, police struggled to control the crowd of about a hundred.

"We weren't able to correctly do our job in order to get to the victims to render aid," Benner said.

In all 22 units responded, that's nearly half of the officers who were on patrol that night and police were forced to use pepper spray to disperse the crowd.

"Because of the many police men and women having to come on site the rest of citizens of Colorado Springs were going through period of significantly reduced public safety," said Randy Kouba who’s on the liquor board.

But Damon Cassens, attorney for Syn, is upset saying his client's business has been unfairly targeted.

"There is no imminent danger and there is no imminent harm," Cassens said.

He was not able to present his side of the case though because of the nature of the hearing and the fact that it was called because of a public safety concern.

The board said in the meeting Wednesday that it found reasonable grounds that the violation occurred and that's all they needed to issue a suspension. The suspension will last 15 days. The board will hear the matter in full at the next regularly scheduled hearing on March 19th.

Since November Colorado Springs police officers have been assigned to the area around Syn Nightclub because of continued gang activity in the area.

Whatever... If you think that by bankrupting the owner it will improve things downtown, Think again. The problems downtown were there before this club and will remain after this club. Mark said it best "byee, byee low lifes! Find somehwhere else to conduct your criminal behavior" But where will they go? And when they do find someplace else. Do we shut it down too? and the next place and the next. Till there is no place left. Fight the problem people not the business.

Ok, the TRUTH is that police tell the nightclub's staff that they have no jurisdiction except on the front sidewalk of the nightclub YET most of the drama happens in the street where the police don't do their job as usual. The one time the staff went outside their jurisdiction, the club got in trouble and that staff member got fired (and ironically is testifying against the club). The same thing happened with The Memorial Day Gone Wild incident where police were paid to sit on their butts and not do their jobs. The real issue is PEOPLE and the AUTHORITIES not doing their jobs with YOUR TAX money. And for the record IT'S USUALLY NOT GANGS - IT'S MILITARY (HENCE NO ARRESTS)!
