A vital east-west Colorado highway remains closed Wednesday night while CDOT crews remove rocks from I-70. Workers blasted a large unstable rock in the afternoon.

Officials still don't know exactly when the 17-mile stretch of Interstate 70 in western Colorado will reopen. They are hoping to have one lane open tomorrow east and westbound sometime on Thursday. Crews will hike to the site in the morning to conduct follow-up rock scaling and assess the stability.

The shortest detour is more than 200 miles long.

The highway has been closed since Monday after a rock slide rained boulders onto the roadway and punched gaping holes into an elevated section.

No one was hurt and no vehicles were damaged.

Karin: why don't you just come to colorado and go to the area, and get a closer look for yourself. Maybe the boulder will sense a cynical person and come down, for you to get a closer look. Why are people so cynical all the time? Get on medicine or something. Geez
